Brand logo and identity

Logo Development
I have decided to name my magazine "Hyped on the Mic". This is because Grime is known to be a speedy rhythm of lyrical wordplay which will give consumers an understanding that the magazine I am going to create will be about Grime music without having to look at the artist that would feature on the front of the magazine or having to look inside the magazine.

I will be using Adobe Photoshop CS5 to create, design and develop my logo designs before I decide which logo will be the final design I will use as the masthead on my final products. This is because I have a clear understanding of how Photoshop works and what do to when creating graphic art and editing photographs due to myself having experience on previous projects.

This font (A Bite) was my first logo idea I had to possibly use for my masthead for my final products of the music magazine. This is because it possessed an urban effect due to it looking like a graffiti writing that seems to be fading into the background of a wall in an urban environment. I decided not to use this logo design because it didn't seem to follow what I was looking for. The reason for this is that it looks like a piece of art from graffiti amateur and not a professional.

Here is the second idea I had in mind for my logo of the final product. This font (Nosegrind) seemed to appeal to me to an extent because it gave me the feel of being in a urban environment due to the writing looking like a basic version of real graffiti writing. This idea appealed to me because you could read it clearly and understand what it said without having to think for a few seconds to figure out what it said like a real graffiti would. This logo idea again, was not completely what I was looking for because it didn't seem to go well with my final product on the front cover.

This is the third logo idea I had in mind for my final products. This font (Zombified) seemed to appeal to me because of the splatted paint effect made it seem like a Grime idea because it looks like it has been rushed due to the font looking like a artist took hardly any care in painting this. However, this seems to follow the codes of conversions more for a Rock or Heavy Metal magazine opposed to a Grime one because Rock and Heavy Metal are both known to be full on hard and loud. So because of this, I have made the decision not to use this as my masthead on my final products.

When I was working in Adobe Photoshop CS5, I went looking through my fonts and came across his one font that was called "Bolts SF". I experimented to see if I could make this font more exciting for the consumer by having the "HOTM" abbreviation of this logo quite large to attract a viewer to check out what it is and then reading on to find out what the abbreviation meant by looking at the word in each letter of the logo. This appealed to me and I think it works well because it gets the consumer wondering what it stands for and they find out when they pic the magazine up and analyse it closer. I also thought it looked more professional opposed to my other logo designs as it is similar to the NME (New Musical Express) logo just the meaning of the abbreviation for the NME magazine is underneath it whereas mine is in each letter i belongs to.

Camera Shots

Mid Shot:

The pictures above of K Koke and myself are known as a mid shots. A mid shot shows the subject in a more detailed way while still giving the consumer an impression of the entire subject. A mid shot is taken from the waist up. Mid shots help to display a persons facial expression, helping the emphasise of emotion of subject that is in the photograph and it also reveals the character's body language.

Long shot:

The photographs above of Mic Righteous and myself are known as long shots. This shot displays the subject in full view to the audience so they can see the characters full body. This shot enables us to see body language and expression. This shot is not a ideal shot for trying to displaying emotion because the facial features are not completely clear, like a close up shot or extreme close up shot would be.

Clost up shot:

The photographs above of Eminem and myself are known as a close up shots. Close up shots present the detail of a subjects face opposed to the scene. They work well when you are trying to capture the emotion within a subject's face.

Camera Angles

Low angle shot (ants eye view): This is where a camera is positioned lower than the subject and looking upwards. This angle shows the impression of domination and/or power.

High angle shot (Birds eye view): This is where the camera is positioned higher than the subject and looking down on them. This shows the impression that the subject is non-essential, giving the audience a feel of being in a higher status opposed to the subject.

Eye level shot: This is where the camera is positioned eye level with the subject. However, this has no effect on the viewer, it just feels like a normal conversion to the viewer.
